On our Vacation to Switzerland and Italy, Cristy decided we should visit Venice (over Florence and Rome), and it turned out to be a great destination.  The best sights are consolidated to an area of just a few square miles and it was really easy to get around.  The city is beautiful, the history is really interesting, and it is obviously very photogenic.  We were there for two nights, which was enough to see what we wanted to, but we could have easily spent another 2 or 3 nights.

On our last night in the city, we missed our stop getting off the train trying to return to our hotel.  We got off at the next stop, which was a tiny little town, hoping to catch a taxi back to our hotel because there were no more trains running that night.  But, that town didn't have any taxis and we were getting nervous we might have to spend the night in the train station (just a one room building).  Luckily, we were able to beg a ride off of a really nice local family (the only people we could find) in a tiny little Fiat.  We were so relieved and so grateful for the family's kindness.
