Old Zion

On my first trip to Belgium, when one of the guys I was working with (Claude) found out that I was from Utah, he started to rave about the beauty of the national parks there.  I was really embarrassed that I had never visited any of them, and I resolved then that I would.  I've since been to Zion three times and to Bryce Canyon.  I hope to get to Monument Valley next, and perhaps Arches after that.

That first trip to Zion was my first real photography trip.  I lassoed a couple of my friends, Cody and Derek, and on our first day we hiked to the top of Angels' Landing.  A couple of days later we hiked the Narrows from the top, camped in the middle, and went the rest of the way the next day.  Except for the 75lb pack that I was carrying (what was I thinking?), that was one of the most fun things I have ever done.  It also happens that I took what I consider my first really good picture there - the one of the small group of hikers wading through the river.

That trip to Zion was excellent for my photography in another way, too.  My friend Cody saw how much fun I was having with my camera and decided he'd investigate the hobby, too.  He loved it and we now regularly take photography trips together.
